D.O.P. Madrid
The appellation is officially called D.O.P. Vinos de Madrid and covers vineyards in the south, west and north of the Comunidad de Madrid, spread across four subzones: Arganda, Navalcarnero, San Martín de Valdeiglesias and El Molar.
There is no single style of “Madrid wine”. Differences in altitude, aspect, climate and soil composition between the four subzones produce quite distinct wines.
Particularly interesting are the Garnacha wines of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, where this variety can offer fresh, expressive reds, while Albillo Real makes whites with personality and ageing potential.
In Arganda, Tempranillo and Malvar take centre stage, giving rise to a different wine profile.
