Description

Arzuaga Reserva 2021 is the essence of Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, one of the most prestigious and internationally renowned names in the Ribera del Duero DO, located in Quintanilla de Onésimo (Valladolid) and founded by the Arzuaga family with the entrepreneurial spirit that has successfully combined the pursuit of perfection with respect for the terroir. A Reserva that represents the true essence of Ribera in its most classic and elegant form.

Made from 95% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot, sourced from more than 20 selected vineyard plots in the provinces of Burgos and Valladolid, with a predominance of the centenary vines over 80 years old from Finca La Planta in the province of Burgos. Clay-limestone soils with limestone bedrock less than one meter deep, in a continental climate. The combination of very old vines—which provide structure, complexity and concentration—with a small proportion of younger vines grown traditionally, which provide freshness and vibrancy, is one of the great secrets of this wine.

The harvest is entirely manual, with 15-kilogram crates, plot by plot. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. The wine then undergoes a long 26-month aging period in new French oak barrels, which adds complexity, structure and the elegant toasted and spicy nuances that characterize this Reserva. The 2021 vintage was rated as Excellent by the Ribera del Duero Regulatory Council.

It has an intense, bright, dark cherry-red color. On the nose, it is complex and elegant: ripe black and red fruits, cherry liqueur, cocoa, vanilla, cedar, noble spices and delicate toasted nuances. A floral touch adds freshness. On the palate, it is broad, unctuous and velvety, with silky, fully integrated tannins, a full body, balanced acidity and an enveloping texture. The finish is long and very persistent, with notes of ripe fruit, cocoa and licorice. Exceptional aging potential.

Serving temperature: 16–18°C. Ideal with suckling lamb, roast suckling pig, stewed game, grilled red meats and aged cheeses with great character.
