Description
Sangarida El Morredero 2022 is the most unique and exclusive red wine from Sangarida, the Bierzo project of brothers Robustiano and Baldomero Fariña (Attis Bodega y Viñedos). Its name pays tribute to El Morredero, one of the most prominent peaks of the Montes Aquilianos, the mountain range that crowns and protects the vineyards of western Bierzo.
Made with 100% Mencía grapes from a single plot called La Tarea, located in the Paraje de Val de Paxariñas (Cacabelos) — the same area that gives rise to La Guiana, the winery's white wine. The vineyard was planted in 1999 with a 2 x 1 planting frame, grown in vaso, under a strict ecological philosophy without any type of chemical intervention.
The winemaking is completely artisanal and minimalist: manual harvest in 15 kg boxes with a sorting table at the winery entrance, complete destemming. Two-week skin maceration with two manual pump-overs a day for a gentle and respectful extraction. Natural spontaneous fermentation. The wine ages for 12 months in two semi-new French oak barrels of 225 and 500 liters. No fining or filtration.
Of intense purple color with medium depth. On the nose it is very fine and delicate: fresh red fruit such as cherry, redcurrant and raspberry, floral notes of violet, spicy nuances of pepper and cinnamon and delicate mineral touches. On the palate it has great volume and seduces with its beautiful harmony, its magnificent balance and the fineness of its tannins. The aromas gain in complexity and intensity with a very good persistence. A particularly delicate and fine Mencía, with great aging potential.
Recognized with 91 Peñín points. Serving temperature: 15-17°C. Ideal for red meats, stews, game, cured meats, rice dishes and aged cheeses.
