MAS VILELLA Negre 2020
5% Sumoll
Tasting notes
Intense and complex aromas that combine ripe black fruit (plum, blackberry) with spicy, balsamic notes and hints of scrubland. Subtle nuances of cocoa, tobacco and moist earth are perceived, coming from its aging in French oak.
Friendly and silky entry, with fine and well-integrated tannins. It stands out for its balance between freshness and structure, with a lively acidity that lengthens its palate. Persistent finish, with mineral and slightly smoky memories.
Description
Mas Vilella Negre 2018 is an authentic expression of the terroir of La Bisbal del Penedès, produced in a restored 16th-century farmhouse converted into a winery by viticulturist Albert Jané. This wine comes exclusively from the Mas Vilella estate, where traditional and adapted varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Sumoll are grown under certified organic farming conditions.
The estate, located on a gentle slope at 220 metres above sea level, is surrounded by Mediterranean woodlands and loamy-clay soils with limestone. The climate is dry, with significant temperature differences between day and night, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. The vineyards are tended by hand and with the utmost respect for the environment, without herbicides or systemic products, following principles of sustainability and minimal intervention.
The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes, with only the healthiest bunches selected. After spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, the wine is aged for 14 months in large, multi-use French oak barrels and then rests in the bottle before being released. The entire process takes place on the estate itself, in underground tanks and spaces where tradition and modernity coexist.
Mas Vilella Negre 2018 is not just a wine, but the result of a winemaking philosophy focused on origin, identity, and respect for the land. With limited, numbered production, it represents a commitment to honest wines, rooted in the landscape and capable of telling the story of the place where they are born.
