Tasting notes

Appearance

It comes in a pale yellow tone with greenish reflections, bright and clean, anticipating freshness and youth.

Nose

It is expressive and complex. Intense citrus notes stand out such as lime, mandarin and grapefruit zest, accompanied by stone fruits such as white peach and apricot. Floral nuances (jasmine, orange blossom) are also perceived, as well as a subtle mineral touch and, in some vintages, delicate honeyed or noble botrytis notes.

Palate

It shows a vibrant acidity that perfectly balances a small amount of residual sugar, giving it tension and balance. It has a soft but firm texture, with flavors that reflect its aromatic profile: juicy citrus, ripe white fruit and a saline minerality that provides depth. The finish is long, pure and refreshing, with a persistence that leaves a clean and elegant sensation.

Description

The PEGASUS BAY Riesling 2024 is born on the stony terraces of Waipara Valley , North Canterbury, New Zealand, a region with a microclimate protected by the Teviotdale mountain range and characterized by "Glasnevin Gravels" soils that favor the concentration of the grape . The vines, many over 35 years old and rooted on their own stock, grow in low fertility conditions, allowing for controlled yields and intense varietal expression.

The 2024 harvest was affected by a cool, windy spring that naturally reduced production, followed by a mild summer and a prolonged autumn—ideal conditions for the slow and harmonious ripening of the grape bunches . The result: grapes with great aromatic concentration, good acidity, and structural potential.

In keeping with the Pegasus Bay style, the winemaking combines slow, low-temperature fermentation of the free-run must, with the aim of preserving its purity and character, while maintaining a slight "spritz" thanks to the care taken at each stage of the process. The aim is for the result to retain elegance, richness and rectitude, balancing a delicate natural sweetness with a vibrant freshness .

This Riesling 2024 This reinforces Pegasus Bay's reputation as a benchmark for Pegasus winemaking in the Southern Hemisphere. Recently named a "Super Classic" by renowned critics, it has achieved scores of 95+ points, standing out for its structured profile, aromatic richness, and aging potential.

In short, the PEGASUS BAY Riesling 2024 represents an exceptional balance between sophistication and varietal purity, a testament to the Waipara terroir and the commitment of a family winery to sustainable viticulture and long-term quality.
